For diamond companies

Everything your registered company needs, in one place

Compliance, licences, offices, talent, market access and representation. Whether you are applying for your first registration or have traded with IGDI for thirty years, the institute works alongside your company.

01 — Compliance

Compliance that keeps your company trading

Every registered diamond company operates under a legal anti-money-laundering framework. The institute helps you meet it without slowing the business down.

  • Know your customer. Identification, verification and ongoing monitoring of business relationships.
  • Anti-money-laundering training. An annual programme; successful participants are exempt from the recurring certification obligation for three years.
  • Responsible sourcing. Kimberley Process documentation and chain-of-custody evidence for rough stones.
  • Reporting. A single point of contact for suspicious activity reports and regulatory questions.
  • Record keeping. Retention periods, transaction records and internal controls, checked during regular visits.

Regulatory obligations apply to every registered company, regardless of size or the number of transactions. Ask the helpdesk if you are unsure what applies to you.

02 — Diamond Office

Licences for rough and polished trade

The Diamond Office is the point of contact for import and export licensing. Staff help you prepare a complete file the first time, so licences are issued without delay.

Rough diamonds

Import licences require a Kimberley Process certificate, a valid customs registration and a statement of origin. Export licences are issued electronically and are valid across the EU.

  • KP certificate with the consignment
  • Customs office and EORI number
  • Registered company number

Polished diamonds

Polished stones move under a simplified regime, but remain subject to origin rules and reporting thresholds. Certificates of origin can be requested for customs purposes.

  • Electronic licence per shipment
  • Reporting of annual volumes
  • Certificates of origin on request

Banking and taxes

Access to international banking relationships in the diamond district, plus guidance on the fiscal regime that applies to trading companies established in Belgium.

Brilliant benefits

Member companies receive reduced rates for bourse floors, meeting rooms, the annual report, training and institute events — plus representation in industry consultations.

Registered companies

The public register lists every registered diamond company, with its registration number, status and representative. Registering your contact details keeps the list accurate.

Currency exchange

Reference exchange rates and the list of currencies currently handled by the district's banks, refreshed on every working day.

Visa and foreign workers

Guidance on single permits, highly qualified migrant schemes and the paperwork required to employ specialists recruited from abroad.

Security and access

Bourse access passes, visitor registration and clear guidance on the use of security cameras in and around the diamond district.

03 — G7 / EU sanctions

Sanctions screening you can rely on

Sanctions lists change often. The institute publishes consolidated G7 and EU lists for the diamond sector, explains the obligations that follow from them and answers screening questions through the helpdesk.

Questions

Quick answers for companies

Any company established in Belgium that trades in rough or polished diamonds, or that acts as an intermediary in that trade, must be registered with the competent authority. Registration brings a compliance framework, a licence route and access to the sector's infrastructure.
Most complete applications are processed within six to eight weeks. Incomplete files are the main cause of delay, which is why the institute reviews your documents before submission.
An address in the region is required for a Belgian establishment, but it does not have to be on the diamond district. Many companies start with a serviced office and move once their team grows.
Customer due diligence, staff training, record keeping and reporting of suspicious transactions. The institute provides the templates, the training programme and a helpdesk for day-to-day questions.
Yes. Highly qualified specialists can be hired under the single permit or the highly qualified migrant scheme. The institute explains which route fits your role and supports the paperwork.
